January 2010

NEWSLETTER

We start 2010 with some great news. As many of you know we submitted all documentation for accreditation to the Council on Higher Education (CHE) in April of 2009. I am happy to inform you that we have been awarded provisional accrditation from the CHE and are now awaiting registration from the DoE and SAQA.

The10th Annual DAF fashion show in 2009 was a great success and we received really positive feedback from the advisory committee. The Committee was made up of Chris Viljoen (fashion director for Elle), Ann Viana (Truworths), David West (Designer) and Maya Prass (Designer).

We would like to thank all Industry members and companies that were involved with DAF in 2009. In particular we would like to thankTruworths who will be offering financial assistance to eight DAF students this year.

There will be some changes in teaching staff this year. Sadly Tania Burman will no longer be a full time lecturer. Tania is not leaving us though and will still teach the Computer Illustration course. We are also very excited to welcome David West to our part time teaching staff. David has been on the DAF advisory committee for 10 years. He has been a Designer at Young Designers Emporium and spent 6 years working as a designer for Truworths. Last year David relaunched his label and opened his first shop in Woodstock.

The DAF team is looking forward to an exciting year ahead and would like to welcome back all our returning studentsas well as our new students. The portfolios we received this year were of a very high standard and we can’t wait to start working with you.

Wishing you all a wonderful year ahead.
